Études

A plotless, one-act homage to classical ballet training, Études stages the progression of a single ballet class rather than telling a story. It opens with dancers doing barre exercises in silhouette, moves into increasingly demanding centre work - including a Romantic-style pas de deux evoking 19th-century sylph ballets - and builds without pause into a series of virtuoso turn and jump combinations for corps, demi-soloists, and three principal dancers. The ballet closes with the full company in a bravura finale, framing everyday classroom discipline as its own form of spectacle.
