Spartacus

Spartacus, a Thracian taken captive with his wife Phrygia during a Roman military campaign, is sold into a gladiator school after they are separated at the slave market. Forced to fight for the entertainment of the Roman general Crassus and his court, Spartacus leads his fellow gladiators in a breakout and rallies enslaved shepherds and peasants into an armed uprising against Rome. As his rebellion gains ground -- briefly reuniting him with Phrygia and humbling Crassus in single combat -- Crassus's mistress Aegina works to seduce and fracture the rebel camp from within, leading to its betrayal and defeat. Surrounded by Crassus's legions, Spartacus is killed in the final battle, and Phrygia is left to mourn him over his body.
