Raymonda
Choreography · Marius Petipa (1898)
music by Alexander Glazunov
Countess Raymonda, awaiting the return of her betrothed, the crusader knight Jean de Brienne, is pursued by the Saracen sheikh Abderakhman, who tries to win her for himself. Warned in a dream by the castle's guardian spirit, the White Lady, Raymonda is nearly abducted by Abderakhman at her own wedding festivities, but Jean de Brienne returns just in time, kills Abderakhman in a duel, and claims her hand. The ballet closes with an extended suite of Hungarian-style dances celebrating their wedding.
