Harlequinade

Harlequin, a penniless but resourceful trickster, loves Columbine, but her father Cassandre wants her to marry the wealthy, foolish Léandre instead and has his servant Pierrot guard her. With help from Pierrot's sympathetic wife Pierrette and a magical slapstick given to him by a Good Fairy, Harlequin outwits Cassandre's schemes and wins Columbine's hand. The second act celebrates their wedding with a series of festive divertissements, including a grand pas in which Harlequin "hunts" Columbine as a lark.
