Flames of Paris Pas de Deux
Choreography · Alexei Ratmansky (2008)
music by Boris Asafiev
Set during the French Revolution, the ballet follows Jeanne, a peasant woman from Marseille whose father is imprisoned after a clash with a local aristocrat. She and her brother join the Marseillais volunteers marching on Paris, while at Versailles the royal court remains oblivious to the coming uprising. The revolutionaries storm the palace, overthrow the aristocracy, and Jeanne dances in celebration with Philippe, a fellow Marseillais volunteer, amid the people's victory.
