Don Quixote

In a Spanish town, the innkeeper's daughter Kitri loves the barber Basilio, but her father wants her to marry the wealthy but foppish Gamache. The elderly knight-errant Don Quixote arrives with his squire Sancho Panza and, mistaking Kitri for his idealized lady Dulcinea, becomes swept up in her story. After the lovers flee among gypsies and windmills - where Don Quixote famously does battle with a "giant" and dreams of Dulcinea in an enchanted garden - Basilio tricks Kitri's father into blessing the match with a fake suicide. The ballet ends with the couple's lavish wedding celebration, after which Don Quixote and Sancho Panza set off in search of further adventures.
