Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Choreography · Christopher Wheeldon (2011)
music by Joby Talbot
On a summer afternoon in Victorian Oxford, teenage Alice sees her friend Jack, the gardener's boy, wrongly dismissed for theft, then follows the family friend Lewis Carroll — transformed into a White Rabbit — down a rabbit hole into Wonderland. There she is chased, shrunk, and enlarged as she tries to reach a hidden garden, meeting a cast of Wonderland figures who mirror people from her own life, including a version of Jack reborn as the Knave of Hearts, on the run from the volatile Queen of Hearts. When the Knave is finally captured and put on trial for stealing the Queen's tarts, Alice defies the court to defend him, and the ensuing chaos brings the dream to an end as she wakes.
